Carpet Museum of Iran

tehran

Located in the northwest of Laleh Park, the Carpet Museum of Iran manifests carpet-weaving, a distinguished part of Iranian culture and includes a wide variety of unique Persian hand-woven carpets and rugs from across Iran dating back to the 17th century to the present time.

Spreading in an area of 3,400 square meters, the museum aims at being a research venue on the knowledge and historical backgrounds of the Iranian carpet art.

Designed by the last Queen of Iran, Farah Diba Pahlavi and founded in 1978, the museum has a nice perforated structure similar to threads on a carpet loom, built in a way that it casts shadows on the exterior walls to provide a cool environment in the interior building. It was established with a number of Persian carpets and kilims to revitalize the carpet-weaving art in Iran.

The permanent exhibitions are in downstairs displaying 150 pieces of carpets in the full range of regional patterns and styles and temporary ones from Iran and across the world in upstairs.

The museum not only displays fabulous hand-woven carpet masterpieces from different cities of Iran such as Isfahan, Tabriz, Kashan, and Kerman, but also it contains 3500 books about oriental carpet and other topics in various languages as a perfect source for researchers. Likewise, the show room of the museum displays interesting movies about carpet-weaving for visitors.

Having the finest examples of the indigenous art in the country, the carpet museum with fantastic designs demonstrates the richness of the art which has always been fascinating from ancient times and is truly well worth a visit now.
