Kashan City

Located in the north of the Isfahan province in Iran and on the western edge of the Kavir Desert, Kashan is one of the main and nice cities of the province with unique traditional architecture which is flanked with mountains and deserts making it have one of the most beautiful surroundings.

As one of the most important archaeological sites in central Iran, Kashan has a historical background spanning over 7,000 years. Majority of historians and travelers to the town called it a gate to the world civilization. Kashan flourished mainly during the Seljuk and Safavid periods of the post-Islamic history of Iran.

The famous traditional architecture of the city is a direct result of thousands of years of adaptation to the dry desert summers. The town has many picturesque wind towers – essential in the town’s hot and airless summers before air-conditioning was introduced.

Archeological discoveries in the Sialk Hills in the west of Kashan reveal that this region was one of the primary centers of civilization dating back to the Elamite period. Kashan is an amazing destination for tourists due to numerous historical places, a wide variety of houses, shrines, mosques, underground water supply (Qanat) including the 18th century Agha Bozorg mosque, Tabatabaie and Boroujerdiha Residences with beautiful courtyards and wall paintings representing traditional Persian residential architecture as well as Kashan traditional Bazaar with fantastic mudbrick architecture as one of the jewels of the city.

Likewise, Fin Garden as one of the most beautiful historical gardens and Abyaneh village near Kashan attract numerous domestic and foreign tourists year-round, especially during traditional feasts and ceremonies along with the nearby Niasar town featuring a beautiful man-made cave and Barzok town on the slopes of the Karkas Mountain as one the significant tourist hubs. In addition to its world-famous carpets, the city has long been noted for its silk textiles, ceramics, copper ware, and rose water (Golab) from the well-known rose fields of Qamsar. In bazaar, however, embroidery work, pottery, and other crafts are carried on, enchanting visitors to buy as memorable souvenirs.
